about

This compilation in a nutshell: I can be a spiteful prick and at a few points wanted to make lowest common denominator METUL for a challenge and a laugh. It turned out to be harder than expected (but still not that hard in some cases). The results have been collected here under the name SLANGWHANGER for no better reason other than I wanted to have a legitimate claim to that as a band name before anyone else.

AND NOW IT CAN BE YOURS! Though why you'd want ANY of it is beyond me... Except maybe because you just have terrible taste in music.

Tracks 1-4 are from a project called Indestructible Tears, which was created to annoy another band by showing how easy it was to make the kind of metal they (probably) wanted to play. The other band didn't notice or just ignored the joke, so the whole thing died very quickly. I tried playing six-string guitar on these and guess what? I sucked at it (and I'm only slightly better as of this albums release). The awful super-compressed sound and cringe inducing autotune vocals in track 4 are intentional.

Track 5 is a jab at another band and to make fun of a lot of the "hardcore" bands on PEI. None of them noticed, either, or also ignored it. My only regret about this track was I originally uploaded it here under an assumed name (Smoke Feast) like a coward. Not this time.

Tracks 6-16 were the first ones made at the start of 2015. The first few (tracks 6, 8-10) were originally made as free music for a local band (same band that tracks 1-4 were made to annoy) that was being lazy and made only ONE song in about a year. They actually took these songs, hastily and poorly edited them into longer versions, then released it as their own demo (with no credit to me at all). I was having fun making them and actually wanted to try some stuff and kept making more, even going so far as to record some quick vocals for them. It's actually dual bass on these, not bass and guitar. Some of them had potential, which will probably never be realized. Oh well...

Finally, the artwork is an edited version of an image I made for a band (same band mentioned in track 5). They used it for a button design, which was cool, but they never credited me, which wasn't. The falling out came later, and I thought I'd take my artwork back by slapping it on something truly awful.

In summary, you could also call this the "Spiteful Asshole" album because that's pretty much all it and its creation was fueled by. Whatever. This is rock bottom for me, so it's only going to go up from here. While a lot of these songs were made to sound terrible on purpose, I can promise you it's a thing I'm going to stop doing from now on. Far too many deliberately terrible bands out in the world, and even more on this little freaking Island.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Years, folks. ~Chad
